White Ribbon Scotland’s campaign to end gender-based violence recently gained further visibility across the rail transport network, thanks to continued collaboration with Scotland’s Railways. The charity were invited to participate in a recent inclusion marketplace hosted at the beautiful Glasgow Central Station, providing a platform to engage with commuters, share the White Ribbon pledge, and raise awareness.
The event marked the latest milestone in an ongoing relationship. Scotland’s Railways—comprising ScotRail, Network Rail Scotland, and the British Transport Police—previously achieved official White Ribbon Status in recognition of their systemic efforts to address gender-based violence through staff training, station awareness campaigns, and public messaging.
Organising and executing an engagement event within Scotland’s busiest railway terminus requires significant logistical coordination. The White Ribbon Scotland team extended their gratitude to the rail staff whose efforts ensured the day ran efficiently, resulting in an exceptionally successful turnout that secured almost 100 new pledges “not to commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women in all its forms” alongside a substantial distribution of white ribbons to the public.
Particular thanks go to Kirsty Diamond, Culture and Engagement Business Partner at Network Rail, and Sara Turkington, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Manager at ScotRail, for facilitating the charity’s involvement. Additionally, recently qualified graduate staff from ScotRail were commended for providing practical on-the-day help and support at the venue, volunteering to collect pledges and hand out white ribbons.
This collaboration at Glasgow Central underlines a shared commitment to building a safer, more inclusive environment across Scotland’s transport infrastructure. Through visibility and corporate backing, the partnership continues to challenge assumptions and encourage individuals to never commit, condone, or remain silent about violence against women in all its forms.
