White Ribbon Scotland held an awareness event at Tulliallan Police College in May with more than 60 Special Constable attendees.

Police Scotland hold an annual conference for people who volunteer as Special Constables, giving of their time voluntarily as Police Officers outwith their normal working hours. This resource includes people from all walks of life. Some are new to being a ‘Special’ and others have been volunteering for decades. In 2024 the event was held at Tulliallan Castle in Kincardine with approximately 60 Special Constables in attendance in addition to regular officers attending as organisers and members of the Police Scotland Young Volunteers.

WRS was invited to attend to set up a stall to raise awareness of their campaign and obtain signatories to the WRS pledge.

While signing the, several attendees shared their thoughts:

“Violence Against Women is why I joined the Specials. My Dad used to assault my Mum and I wanted to help stop it happening to other people.” – Male Special Constable.

“Every cop should sign the White Ribbon pledge.” – a male officer in his 20’s.
