West College Scotland Competition to Design Bespoke White Ribbon Logo
As part of West College Scotland’s involvement in the White Ribbon Scotland Status Campaign, Graphic Design students from the HNC Graphic Design with Illustration course in Clydebank were invited to create a college-specific logo for the campaign. The brief was to retain the White Ribbon symbol and blue background while incorporating elements of the College’s identity to create a recognisable and meaningful design.
A judging panel comprising Davy Thompson & Jane McClements (White Ribbon Scotland), Joe Rafferty (Director of People), Richard Hutchinson (Graphic Designer), and Caroline Campbell(Lecturer) reviewed the submissions. The quality of entries was exceptionally high, with the judges narrowing the competition down to two finalists before the final selection was made through a student vote.
The winning design was created by Daria Senyshyna. Judges praised the clear and distinctive ribbon design, the effective use of West College Scotland’s visual identity through the diamond motif, and the way the design reflected the shared commitment of White Ribbon Scotland and the College to ending violence against women and girls. The ribbon’s shape and flowing form created a strong visual impact while remaining instantly recognisable as part of the White Ribbon campaign.

“It has been great to have had the opportunity to work with our students in developing a logo that will be recognisable to West College Scotland’s White Ribbon Scotland Status Project. The standard of work was extremely high, making the final decision very difficult. Through this project, students engaged with the important work of White Ribbon Scotland, helping to spread the message that violence against women and girls is not acceptable. We want West College Scotland to be recognised as a safe space where inappropriate attitudes and behaviours are not tolerated. Thank you to everyone involved for supporting such an important project.”
Daria’s Reflections
Daria explained that she wanted her design to bring together the identities of White Ribbon Scotland and West College Scotland in a way that felt natural and united. Drawing inspiration from the College’s diamond motif and colour palette, she incorporated these elements into the ribbon itself, creating a sense of upward movement to symbolise progress, hope, and positive change.
For Daria, the design represents support, unity, and collaboration. She intentionally balanced bold typography with the flowing ribbon to convey both strength and empathy, reflecting the importance of people working together with respect and understanding.
Daria said she felt proud to contribute to a campaign that raises awareness, encourages positive conversations, and promotes a safer, more supportive society. She particularly valued White Ribbon Scotland’s focus on bringing people together to create meaningful change and wanted her design to reflect those principles.
