The White Ribbon Scotland Ayrshire Schools Trophy
Grange Academy from Kilmarnock were the ultimate winners in a football tournament consisting teams from 22 High Schools across the Pan-Ayrshire area. Hosted by Cumnock Juniors Football Club, the event was an exciting day of sport and raising awareness of White Ribbon Scotland’s work.
Throughout the day participants received short inputs to raise their awareness of the issue of violence against women and girls – and to hear of the ways in which men and boys can be involved in ending it.
- Cllr Anthony Gurney, Leader, North Ayrshire Council opened the tournament
- Cllr Laura Brennan-Whitefield, South Ayrshire Council emphasised the need for boys to listen to the girls and women in their lives in order to learn more about the issues they face.
- Sergeant Jason Drury, Police Scotland, South Ayrshire Local Authority Liaison Officer
- Davy Thompson, Campaign Director, WRS
- Cllr Jim McMahon, Depute Leader, East Ayrshire Council awarded the trophy after making an appeal for everyone involved in the tournament to think about what part they can play as allies in the effort to address VAWG.
Many thanks are due to the organisers and participants of the day’s events and to the White Ribbon Scotland volunteers who made the day such a success.
