White Ribbon Scotland’s Lead Project Worker, Rebekah MacLeod recently took part in the Festival of Politics, Thursday 27 and Friday 28 August at the Scottish Parliament at Holyrood in Edinburgh, Rebekah too part in lively debate and a thought-provoking panel discussions with expert speakers and inspiring voices debating the issues shaping Scotland, the UK and beyond.
“I had the absolute privilege to sit on the “Challenging the Manosphere” Panel at The Scottish Parliament last night, as part of their Festival of Politics. Alongside Alan Bissett, Agnes Tolmie from the Scottish Women’s Rights Centre and Katie Hagmann, it was so great to be part of discussing what steps we can take critically engage with the Manosphere, and ultimately create a society where misogyny is not tolerated. Legitimate grievances lead individuals to the rabbit hole of the Manosphere, and as a society, we are responsible for creating physical spaces where men and boys can socialise and build healthy friendships and relationships. I was so heartened to see so many men and boys in the crowd, as well as so many young women speaking their truth about the misogyny they experience in their everyday lives.” – Rebekah MacLeod.
The Festival of Politics is a popular and accessible festival held once a year at the Scottish Parliament at Holyrood and includes talks, debates, film screenings, music, food, and free exhibitions.
Participants at the Festival of Politics 2019 include Baroness Helena Kennedy QC, journalist and broadcaster Andrew Marr, and TV’s Dr Rangan Chaterjee.
