Ribbon Scotland were delighted to take part in Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh Waverley Stations during Rail Safety Week 2026. Scotrail staff also held White Ribbon Scotland stalls at Dundee and Aberdeen Station later in the week, in demonstration of how important our trained speaker volunteers are to our small charity.
Rail Safety Week Is an annual initiative focusing on rail safety for all and aims to bring all aspects of safety to the forefront of people’s minds.
As a White Ribbon Status organisation, Scotland’s Railway – comprising Network Rail, Scotrail and British Transport Police – partnered with White Ribbon Scotland to expand the definition of safety to include the security of passengers and staff.
By engaging men and boys in the conversation to address the root causes of gender-based violence, this partnership fosters a culture where harassment is not tolerated. Through collaboration across Scotland’s Railways, staff are equipped to recognise and safely challenge inappropriate behaviour, ensuring stations and carriages are safe environments for women and girls.
Scotland’s Railways Awarded White Ribbon Status
ScotRail, Network Rail, and the British Transport Police have been recognised with White Ribbon Status, a significant achievement in their commitment to ending violence against women. This award highlights their dedication to creating a safer and more inclusive railway network.
A Milestone for Scotland’s Railways
Gaining White Ribbon Status required real action. Staff across all three organisations took part in staff training to challenge harmful attitudes and promote respect. They also worked with White Ribbon Scotland during the 16 Days of Activism, hosting station events to raise awareness and encourage men to take the White Ribbon Pledge.
In 2025, Scotland’s Railways and White Ribbon Scotland covered 8 stations, from Inverness in the north to Kilmarnock in the south. Staff from all three agencies helped with stalls in stations, engaging with commuters, collecting pledge signatures and distributing white ribbons.
This award is an important step, and the work continues; Scotland’s Railways remain committed to driving change and setting an example for other industries.
