White Ribbon Scotland's response to Consultation of Sexual Entertainment Venues

The consultation on licensing of Sexual Entertainment Venues closes next Tuesday 24th September.

White Ribbon Scotland have returned a response to the consultation which is attached below. We urge our supporters to return their own responses to the consultation; the consultation paper is available here. We are happy for our supporters to use any or all of our response and for encourage others to make their own submissions.

Our position is:

  • Sexual Entertainment Venues should be licensed as separate entities to other premises which require an alochol license, and therefore we are broadly in favour of the proposals outlined in the consultation which enhance regulation
  • Sexual Entertainment Venues should not exist in a Scotland free of violence against women, and regulation on behalf of the state condones their existence. Lap dancing is a form of commercial sexual exploitation and therefore a form of violence against women. A Scotland free of violence against women would therefore be a Scotland free of Sexual Entertainment Venues.

Please respond to the consultation and make your voice heard. You don't have to respond to every question - even a brief letter, email or even a paragraph counts. Send your responses to:
