Launching the Write To End Violence Against Women Awards

A new award to commend excellence in journalism.

White Ribbon Scotland is proud to announce it is working with Rape Crisis Scotland, Zero Tolerance and the National Union of Journalists on the new Write To End Violence Against Women Awards.

What we read in the news has a huge impact on the attitudes we form about our society, as such, it is hugely important that the information we read be written in a way that is honest and informative. Too often we read sensationalist journalism on "stranger danger" in relation to rape cases or we read language that, at times, can point blame towards victims.

We want to commend journalists and bloggers who write about violence against women appropriatley, and encourage more of this journalism to exist and also highlight where papers have got it wrong.

We are looking for readers to submit their nominations. The awards will be taking place in the Scottish Parliament later this year.

The categories are:

  • Best Print Journalism article
  • Best Student Article
  • Best Blog
  • Worst article

Find out more here and submit your entries by the 31st of August.
